Much of what I write seems to be be linked to a journey to somewhere. Whether literally a journey on a road or a figurative journey to a life changing destination. A destination that I am not even sure I will recognise when I arrive….
My current journey is on a road to a writerly life. To be honest I am finding this journey much more difficult than imagined. There have been stops and starts with indecisions a plenty. From what do I write about to not even being sure I can write. This start fraught by such indecisiveness has been uncomfortable for me but strengthened my understanding of students who we place in this position on a daily basis. The tools and strategies I have brought to the fore to keep me on the road will be invaluable when inviting teachers and students to commence their own journey.
It has been beneficial having a companion on this journey to spur me to venture around the next corner, over the next rise – just to see what might be waiting there. (Come to think of it she does this literally as well on our road trips!) We have stopped at places I have only fleetingly thought about visiting before. Places like “Keeping a Writer’s Notebook”, “Attending a Writers Council” and dare I say “Blogging”.
Despite the false starts and the hard work it is an eye-opening, skill building, rewarding journey and one I am glad I am undertaking. Who knows what discoveries I will make and who I will meet along the way.
